Gap Year abroad

Our Christian mission

Our Christian mission centers around three themes:

  • Practice hospitality
  • Participate in community
  • Pursue hearts for Jesus

Practice hospitality

The foundation of our Christian ministry is hospitality. We want to give our guests an experience of Christian hospitality that they won’t forget. We believe that practical service, given with kindness and joy, can be the starting point of meaningful interaction with a guest in the hostel. As short term volunteer (1 – 3 months) you will have café and kitchen shifts preparing food, serving guests, and being a great host by creating a welcoming atmosphere. You could also lead evangelism activities. Long term volunteers (4 – 12 months) can broaden their experience and responsibilities, for example as receptionist or cleaner supervisor.

Participate and live in a Christian community

During your Sheltertime, you will live in a Shelter community house with all the volunteers of the two hostels. Our community house is a place of fellowship. You will take part in a small group meeting each week and once a month we have a time of prayer and worship. You will also have a prayer buddy and a prayer mentor who you can talk and pray with.

Pursue hearts for Jesus

Through our hospitality, there are many opportunities to share the love of Christ to our guests. We want to encourage you to take the chance to learn new things, such as directing hostel programs and events, preparing Bible Discussions, leading City Walks, and organizing Open Mic Nights. (Don’t worry, all our activities include training!)
