What do we mean when we talk about evangelism? What is our message?

In response to the exemplary life of Jesus Christ and His commission to his followers, we hope to bring people to faith in Christ. In our hostels, we want to do this in creative, communicative and relational ways.

Jesus Christ is central because He is the only way to God. He died on the cross for our sins. The punishment that we deserve, He has taken upon Himself. For those who believe in Christ, there is forgiveness of sins and eternal life with God. Those who reject Christ are under eternal judgment.
Evangelism (the communication of the Good News of Jesus Christ), therefore, is a matter of life and death. We want to use all our means to serve this purpose. We believe that God wants all people to be saved. God showed this by sending His Son, Jesus Christ. It is up to each individual person to accept this salvation that is available in Christ.

The following facts are central in our communication of the Gospel (Good News) of Christ:

  • God created heaven and earth
  • God loves His creation and especially people
  • Mankind is created to have a relationship with God
  • Sin separates people from God and breaks the relationship
  • All people have sinned
  • Jesus Christ, Gods Son, died for the sins of all people
  • After three days, Jesus Christ rose from death. He is ascended to heaven and is alive for eternity
  • Forgiveness of sins is available to all men who repent and accept the atoning death of Jesus Christ. Such a decision restores the relationship with God and leads to eternal life instead of eternal death.
  • The restored relationship with God can grow through reading and obeying the Bible and through prayer.
  • To be nurtured and build up in the faith and to be involved in Gods plan for the world, it is vitally important for each and every believer to be part of a community of believers (church). The Shelter is not such a place. This is one of the reasons that we take people along to church on Sundays and help (new) believers to find a church community to be part of.
