Short term Missions in Europe

 Mission field Europe
Europe used to be a very Christian continent, but now 2.124 people leave the church each day (!) and only one out of every 40 Europeans is a Evangelical Christian. Materialism, secularism and neo-paganism have taken the place of Christianity as a basis for moral values.
Winning people for Christ, on the other hand, is really hard. In measuring Christian growth over the last century, Europe’s rate was the lowest in the world. European nations dominate the top ten in a category called “Least responsive megapeoples.” They are the toughest people on earth to reach with the gospel.

European missions in Amsterdam
Among the many ministries that are reaching out to Europe, the Youth Hostel Ministry has a unique feature. Our hostels are located in Amsterdam, but we are serving a huge mission field covering Europe and far beyond Europe. Not because we are going out to many nations, but because many nations are coming to us. The mission field walks into our hostels, carrying a backpack.
Reaching European travelers
When you serve with us in the Youth Hostel Ministry, you will be doing short term missions in Europe. Many of our guests are from European countries, such as Germany, France, United Kingdom and Italy. At home, these young people would probably never set foot in a church or come in contact with a group of Christians. But in Amsterdam they are suddenly staying in a Christian hostel, with Christian staff. A great opportunity, don't you think?
Besides Europeans, the Shelter hostels welcome many travelers from North America, Australia, Latin America and Asia. In total, we host 40,000 travelers a year. Some have never heard the Gospel and some even come from countries that are closed for missionaries.
 Short term missions
Joining the Youth Hostel Ministry in Amsterdam is short term missions (less than one year). But to distinguish between 1-3 months commitments and 6-12 months commitments, we use the term long term missions for the 6-12 months period. This means that you can join our ministry team in Amsterdam for a short term missions period (1-3 months) or for a long term missions period (6-12 months).
