Christian ministries in Amsterdam 

This page gives an overview of Christian ministries and organizations in the city centre of Amsterdam. (In alphabetical order)
 
Amsterdammers helping Amsterdammers (AHA)
AHA is a ministry that allows Christians living in Amsterdam to be a blessing to fellow city residents. They offer practical help to the housebound, run a drop-in centre, hold a church service, and have a work place where young street people frequently come to do bicycle repairs.
 
Cleft, the (YwaM)
The Cleft is a church, drop-in centre, and home for those who live in the Red Light District.  There is a special focus on the homeless and prostitutes.  It is also a home base for a team that ministers to street and window prostitutes. (Link:

Different
This Christian counselling centre focuses on helping those struggling with sexual identity problems.  (Link

Foolish Things (YwaM) 
Foolish Things run a  seeker-sensitive youth bible study group and a funky café.  They have a great ministry among the Christian and not-quite-Christian-yet youth in Amsterdam.  They attract many alternative youth who don’t feel comfortable among “normal” church goers. (Link:

Havenlicht
The “ Harbour light” is a ministry in the Port of Amsterdam. The basis foundation of the work is the concern for the spiritual need amongst seamen. (Link:

Oudezijds 100
This is a group of Christians who live in a community in the Red Light District.  They have an open living room for people of the District who want to drop in. ( Link:

Scarlet Cord, the
This team of women ministers to the window prostitutes in the Red Light District.  They make evangelistic visits to prostitutes and take the time just to listen to their stories and concerns. They also have a prostitution prevention project in schools in youth groups, called “Beware of Loverboys.” (Link:

Second Mile, the
This ministry works with the homeless in both practical and spiritual ways.  Working as a drop-in centre, practical needs supplier (food, clothing, etc), and bridge with the social services, they strive to go the “second mile” that Christ taught.
 
Shelter Youth Hostel Ministry, the
The Shelter City and The Shelter Jordan are two Christian youth hostels in the centre of Amsterdam. They provide accommodation and hospitality to 30,000 travellers a year. The international staff is all Christian and aims to share the saving love of Christ in both words and actions with the guests. The international staff receives ministry training and lives together at the staff house. (Link

Sisters of Augustine
These Catholic nuns offer temporary shelter for women and children.  They also provide sandwiches for the homeless of the Red Light District. (Link:

Tot Heil Des Volks
Founded in 1855, this is one of the oldest still active ministry organizations in Amsterdam. Tot Heil Des Volks (the name means “for the salvation of the people”) oversees various ministries in and around Amsterdam: the Shelter Youth Hostels, The Scarlet Cord, Different, The Second Mile, and women shelter Ruchama. Youth with a Mission Amsterdam
