Short term (1-3 months)

You can join the Shelter Youth Hostel Ministry for a short-term period of 3 full months. During the summer (June, July, August) periods of 1 or 2 months are also possible. Your start date could be on the first day of any month. In case of a internship or practical training for your (Bible)school, other start and end dates might be possible.

We offer you
During your time of service in the YHM, we will provide you with free accommodation and meals. You will also receive teaching in the Ministry Training Program for free.

Costs
You will have to provide and pay for:

• Travel to Amsterdam and back
• Medical insurance

It is required that you have medical insurance for the period that you will be serving at the Shelter. You will need to provide for this. If your (normal) insurance at home also has coverage for medical costs in the Netherlands, you can use this. If not, you should open a new insurance policy, this could be travel insurance with medical costs included. Make sure you bring a copy of your insurance certificate and information.

General requirements
In order to join our team, you need to meet the following criteria:

• be a born-again Christian
• between 18 and 30 years of age
• with a heart for evangelism 
• willing to serve in a practical way
• willing to live in an international Christian community
• desiring to learn more about the Bible, ministry and Christian living
• able to speak and understand English well enough to have conversations
• meeting the visa  requirements (see below)

Visa requirements
We are bound by government regulations regarding visa and permits.
EU: Things are easy when you hold a passport from a European Union (EU) country. Citizen from the EU do not require visa or residence permits in order to join our team.

Non-EU: If you hold a passport from a country that is not part of the European Union (EU), please pay careful attention to the following.
You can only join our team for a short-term period if you are from a country that does not require a visa to enter the Netherlands. Click here for a list of these countries. If your country is not on this list, you will not be able to join us.

In other words, if you legally can enter the Netherlands without any visa, you can join our team without further legal requirements. On the other hand, if you would need a visa to enter the Netherlands, you can not join our team for a short term period.
